Former Soviet Counterintelligence Officer Joined Donald Trump Jr. and Russian Lawyer in ‘Clinton Dirt’ Meeting

The Trump-Russia plot thickens… It turns out that the Russian lawyer, who met with Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump campaign clan, after promising damaging information on Hillary Clinton, wasn’t alone! Instead, the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya “was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counterintelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence,” according to NBC News.

The lobbyist, Rinat Akhmetshin, who “denies any current ties to Russian spy agencies,” accompanied Veselnitskaya, to the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower. President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner and publicist Paul Manafort, also the former chairman of the Trump campaign, were in attendance.

Akhmetshin, a native of Russia, reportedly served in the Soviet military and emigrated to the U.S., where he holds dual citizenship. At the time, he and Veselnitskaya were collaborating on a campaign against the Magnitsky Act, (“a set of sanctions against alleged Russian human rights violators”). This act is tied to the ban on American adoptions of Russian children, which was also a topic supposedly discussed during the meeting.
